This is another poem from Muren Hsi that I have translated, and Jon has helped on.

〈席慕蓉〉

Translation is never an easy task. I was trying to render this beautiful poem, “A Blossomed Tree” by Muren Hsi(席慕蓉), into English today. I’ve done an almost “literal translation”. Then I turned to my novelist friend, Jon, for proof reading it. He reminds me that English speakers respond to rhythm and rhyme in poetry, while the French respond to the numbers of syllables. Then, he kindly reformed my literally translation to something that does not read like a translation. And I really like his revision.

I think it would be interesting to put all three versions together. It shows how a good version comes out at the end. And I guess it also means that I need to do my English better. Still.

090404 Scheveningen Bryan 01

I was so bored, I guess. So, I followed someone's footsteps and created two sets of quiz about "Bryan". *grin* You may want to have a look to test how well you have known me.

Every once in a blue moon, I’d receive something similar from a friend. Or… from two friends. It’s always nice to re-examine how they are doing or what they are thinking. And it’s fun to express a bit how I am doing and what I am thinking or feeling. There you go, my one-word answer to these questions from Heather and Dustin.

This is a story about four people named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody, and Nobody.

And the undies thing continues... Here is the new collection (Spring/Summer 2007) of DIESEL Intimate. As I am a notorious diesel fan (well, arguable!), here are some nice photographs that I would like to share with you all! Enjoy 'em!

So, Mum called, as she promised, wishing 'Happy Chinese New Year, Kong Hei Fat Choy' and all that. I was kind of anti-social this weekend, as I predicted. Therefore, when colleagues tried to drag me to Cologne or Brugge with them, I turned down their offers. I was just lazy, and wanted to be alone for the weekend.

[Prepare to Laugh]

Sometimes (well, JUST sometimes) you have to do something stupid to look funny, or vice versa. So, here is my confession. And I am generous enough to share with all of you. (Or maybe, I should also write down ‘Whoever finds this, I love you…’ on a small piece of paper and stick it somewhere…Well, MAYBE!)

Although I am not really a dog person (well, neither a cat person…), when I saw this quick quiz, I was still curious enough to take it. Well, at least, see what I’d get!

And why do I use that title? Well, life is always a bitch, don’t you reckon? If you don’t tame it, it will bite you right back!

K is a Norwegian friend of mine. Thanks a lot for his help, finally, my ‘almost famous’ experience has been revealed. Well, to thank him, of course, I'd post his beautiful picture here. So that he’s almost famous in Taiwan too. Well, at least, on the Internet, and among the readers of this blog.

Here is the translation of that article in English.

Days ago, someone in Amsterdam sent me a message. The message was quite friendly, so I thought I’d check out his profile. However, when I read through his profile, I felt quite uncomfortable with his description of the likes of ‘coloured men’. So I told him what I thought regarding that term.

Later that day, I discussed with Dan about the usage of ‘Coloured Men’ in general. I asked whether it is a discriminative term. Dan told me, it was ok in the 80’s, but it’s not politically correct anymore. That confirmed my thoughts.

So, Dan told me about the difficulties he experienced earlier when he wanted to leave a message on my blog. Then, I realised that pixnet is not yet that friendly to readers who do not read Chinese. Of course, Dan still managed his way to leave his very first message on my blog. (Well, thanks, Dan!) But I think it would be good if I also make a suggestion to the site manager. I did. Later Bruce told me that it sounds easy to add an English interface but it is actually a lot of work. Therefore, I think it would be nice to at least add some demonstration here to explain a bit how to leave a message on pixnet. And here is the demonstration.

I guess the picture pretty much explains everything.

I have been struggling with posting in English for quite some time. The argument is simple: I simply do not know how many readers of my blog need to read in English. The language of my blog has been Chinese from the beginning, so I would assume that all people who keep reading my blog understand Chinese. Otherwise, what keeps bringing them back to my blog? (My fabulous photos?)

But I do have friends who do not speak Chinese. (Well, if I have stayed in Europe for almost 7 years, and I don't have any non-Chinese speaking friends, wouldn't that be an awful thing?) And it would be a nice thing if they also know some other part of Bryan. Well, I am not God Almighty, so I do not assume anyone building up a Babel tower to have a sneak peek of my life. (Well, if there is any, do let me know! My realm is lack of visitors these days!) But a life with something to share (with friends) is blessed, as I believe. So, maybe I should also work on the English part a bit.
